North Captiva Island - Secluded And Private

A SMALL SECLUDED ISLAND

If you are looking for a very small and secluded island in Southwest Florida, this may be your place. North Captiva Island, also known as Upper Captiva, is truly an old Florida island getaway. You can only get here by boat or small plane. There is a water taxi from Pine Island on the mainland. You can also get there by boat from the South Seas Resort on Captiva.

There are only about 300 homes and condos on the island. The streets are sand and cars are not allowed. Golf carts or walking are the main types of transportation.

Upper Cap as residents call it, is less than five miles long and a quarter to a half a mile wide. There is a short landing field for light aircraft, a limited grocery store, a couple of restaurants, a small resort or two, a gift shop and a fitness center. It's the kind of island that doesn't have a post office and mail is picked up at the harbor.

North Captiva is a place for ultimate relaxation. Bring some good books. Take walks. Go to the beaches. Experience some of the best fishing in the entire state. Rent a kayak or a wave runner, look for shells, watch the wildlife or talk with the very friendly people who live and vacation here.

There are homes and condos to buy as well as rent. The pace is slow - very slow. The island beaches are full of shells and are made for long walks and swimming. You won't find a crowd at any of the beaches. The water is clear and warm.

All the homes are built off the ground, usually on sturdy pilings that are very tall. Most often they have great views of the water. Living quarters are off the ground and many homes have roof top decks. This is not the type of island where you see lavish landscaping. Most of the time a home is on a lot of sand with only local vegetation.
